The Olympic Gold Medalist will be in Suffolk for the Peanut Fest Parade this weekend.  You all should go and check it out.  This is possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity!

Dont forget about spirit week next week, as well as homecoming!  I expect to see all of you on your best behavior as well as representing your school.  Keep it appropriate and make sure you get your work done.  See you friday evening at the football game!

While reading the newspaper again this morning online while you wonderful students were taking a quiz, I read an article about students and gang violence.  I am curious as to how you all feel about this topic.  How you all feel about coming to this school where there are problems with violence.  How you feel about parental involvement versus other reasons for joining a gang.

I want to make sure that my students feel safe in their environments.  I also want to make sure that my students know that if they need anything, they know they can come to any teacher in this building for help.  Read this article and tell me what you all think.  I also want you to read the comments and think about them.  Is it a problem with the law?  prevention?  parents?  I want to know your input.

also, spirit week is coming up soon!

The days are as follows:

Monday:  Tacky Day
Tuesday:  80's Day
Wednesday:  Kindergarten Day
Thursday:  Dress for success Day
Friday:  SPIRIT DAY!!!!!

make sure you show your school spirit!  Happy Homecoming!

Word of the day is:  slugabed

noun; one whos stays in bed until a late hour; a sluggard.

I bet some of you know some people like this eh?

until next time!

First and foremost I would like to take this time to honor Officer Jeffries.  He was a resource officer here at Lakeland, and he was always one of the kindest men around.  He passed away last week, and I would like everyone who knew him and didnt get the chance to know him to take the time to just remember him.

Today's word is:fettle

FET-l, noun,A state or condition of fitness or order; state of mind; spirits -- often used in the phrase "in fine fettle." This is a great word to be using, especially when we are getting to that point of the year, where the report cards are getting close, and the Interim Reports are even closer!    Just a reminder that all make up work has to be in before October 3rd!    Also, this morning I was driving to work, listening to the radio as I always do, and heard the DJ's talking about the election.  For those of you reading this in my English classes, I want you to think about this.  The DJ's were talking about how our decisions make us who we are, and maybe we arent that happy with them after we make them.  That before we make a decision, we need to exhaust all options and outlets to make sure we make the proper one.  How does this deal with the presidential election?  How does this deal with your lives as a whole?  How does this deal with school?   I'd love to read your comments.  Please post some answering these questions!

Greetings! 09/12/2008

Welcome to my blog.

This will be an area where I will post quick updates and random rambling, as well as interesting facts, links, and the word of the day.  Of course, this wont be everyday, but I do hope you check it often for a bit of entertainment and laughs.

Today I'd like to talk about sagging pants.  There is an article online (CURRENT EVENT KIDS!) with the Virginian-Pilot and it is rather interesting.

The article states that the Commonwealth of Virginia and other surrounding states are trying to put into effect a ban of sagging pants.  The article also states that there will be severe punishments for those that do not abide by the ban.  You could recieve a ticket, a fine or a felony charge.  This is big news considering every day i have to tell at least one student to pull up his or her pants.

Here is another link that is directly related to YOU, the student!:

What are your thoughts on the situation?  How do you feel about being told how you can dress or not dress?  Should this be an issue for the law, or parents?  You tell me.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Also, word of the day is lackadaisical
Definition is:  Lacking spirit or liveliness, showing lack of interest, languid, listless.

Try using this word in a sentence!
