Greetings! I am pleased to welcome you to English 10! I have planned a year filled with activities and learning. This information is a supplement to the city-wide student information guide provided at the beginning of the year. Please share this information with your parents and do not hesitate to ask questions. The textbooks you will be using in my class are:
v Elements of Literature (Fourth Course)
v Elements of Language (Fourth Course)
v Holt Reader (Fourth Course)
v Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics (Fourth Course)
Classwork and Homework policies:
All written assignments must be written on loose-leaf paper or worksheets. Students should use blue or black ink only. No other colors will be accepted. Mistakes should be corrected with white out, or neatly crossed out. Papers must be headed in the top right hand corner of the paper as such:
Name: First and Last
Date: Month, date, and year
Block: 1, 2, 4, 5, or 7
Assignment Title and/or page numbers
Please Follow the Lakeland High School Standards for Written Assignments.
Determining the Grade:
Tests/Projects/Book Reports: 40%
Quizzes/Notebook Checks: 30%
Daily Work/Class Participation: 20%
Homework: 10%
Make-Up Work:
Make-up work can be made up after school or for homework. It is your responsibility to contact me to make up work! All work must be turned in within 5 days of absence. Please do not ask for make-up assignments until the end of class or end of the school day.
Class Rules:
The following behaviors will not be tolerated in this class:
Ø Tardiness
Ø Failure to follow directions
Ø Making unnecessary or rude noises or comments
Ø Name calling
Ø Touching
Ø Profane Language
Ø Cutting Class
Ø Fighting
Ø Weapons of any kind
Ø Unauthorized devices or items (cell phones, pagers, lighters, headphones, etc.)
Ø Other behaviors listed in the student handbook
